“Me and My House” – Joshua 24:14-18 – Pastor Bruce Lerum
Every house begins with a foundation.
The strength or weakness of that foundation most often depends on its beginning.
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Following Joshua’s life refreshed the memory of the Israelites.
Remember what God has done for you.
Joshua 24:17 “It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes.”
Serving is our most natural response to God’s abundant grace.
Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
1. Both Moses and Joshua were hand-picked by God. How would you describe the integrity of both of them? Did the Israelites recognize that integrity and reward it with confidence?
2. Joshua chapters 1 and 24 are bookends of Joshua’s tenure as their leader. What difference do you see between Joshua 1:9 and 24:15? Do you see any correlation in the growth of your own relationship with God and your trust in Him?
3. We learn from our past but not by dwelling on it. It appears quite evident that the Israelites remembered vividly how God had walked with them. Are we as sure to remember and appreciate God’s presence in our lives? Think of some of these times in your own life and share them.
4. Joshua is saying goodbye to people he has lead for many years. What seems to be his main concern for their future?
