“The Ascension” – Acts 1:3-11 – Pastor Bruce Lerum
Our promises often come up empty.
God’s promises are always fulfilled. They always come true.
Joshua 21:45 “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.”
As far as God is concerned, we’re on a need–to–know basis.
We simply need to rely on the gift of the Holy Spirit, as promised.
Acts 1:7 “He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.”
We await Jesus return.
Until then, we are enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
- We remember best what we hear first and last. What did that mean to those whom Jesus spoke to in Acts 1:3-11?
- The question asked in verse 6 indicates that they still didn’t understand all of Jesus’ mission. From the question asked, what did they think would happen?
- Jesus had promised them the power of the Holy Spirit several times previously. Howe is the Holy Spirit received in us?
- God the Father’s presence was evident through the Old Testament. We know of Jesus ministry on earth and purpose in dying (mainly the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). What does it mean for you/us to be promised and receive the Holy Spirit? Talk about the effect on our life.
