Easter: Who Are You Looking For? – John 20:1-18 – Pastor Bruce Lerum
Peter and John ran to the tomb.
Peter and John went to investigate.
John 20:3 “So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.”
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb.
Mary Magdalene went to mourn, but “saw the Lord.”
John 20:11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb…Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!”
It’s Easter morning.
Who are you looking for this morning?
John 20:15 “…Who is it you are looking for?”
1. Because the stone was moved from the opening of the tomb, Mary assumed that someone had taken Jesus body. (“They” probably meaning the Romans.) Why do you suppose she went to the tomb in the first place?
2. Two thousand years later, we know that Jesus’ was not in the tomb when Mary Magdalene arrived there. Why do so many not believe in the resurrection?
3. It’s Easter. We know the tomb is empty. Talk about the significance.
4. If you are reading this you probably are or were at an Easter morning worship service. What brought you to church this Easter? a) To celebrate Jesus resurrection and defeat of death. b) It’s what we do every Easter. c) I really don’t know why but I’d like someone to tell me about it.
