“Fit For a King” 03.15.20 Pastor Lerum

Dear Friends in Christ,

The Church Council of Christ the Victor Lutheran Church and I have been praying and discerning our response to the unfolding news of the coronavirus COVID-19. As you well know, in times like this we can respond with panic or fear, or we can rely on God’s love and wisdom, as well as the strength of our faith community. We are choosing the latter, which has prompted us to discern our next steps as a congregation.

We recognize our responsibility to those who are most at risk and vulnerable and seek to contribute to the health and well-being of our congregation and our wider community. Having taken into account recently issued directives from the CDC (Center for Disease Control), as well as recommendations from the President, Governor and others, we will suspend all scheduled activities of Christ the Victor as of now.

For now, we will be cancelling all programming at the church, including but not limited to worship, Club 66, fellowship, choir and praise band rehearsals, and Bible studies. We hope to resume worship together by Easter Sunday, April 12, even if it is outside. We will reassess worship possibilities prior to that time.

Until that time, we will be sharing an abridged form of worship with you via our web page at www.ChristTheVictor.net . Those will be available via the web page on Wednesday evenings through Lent and Sunday mornings.

At this time, our food bank remains open to serve some of our most vulnerable and at-risk neighbors. We have changed the distribution process so as to essentially limit any contact between clients and food bank volunteers.

The church will remain open Monday – Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm if you should want to come into the sanctuary to pray and meditate, meet for pastoral care concerns, as well as anything else you may need. Please call ahead of time in case some other pastoral need arises and I have to leave. Holy Communion will also be available at those times if you should choose to receive it.

We encourage you, now more than ever, to continue being generous with your regular offerings and giving, as well as contributions to our capital campaign. You may mail in your offering, drop it off at the church, or make use of online giving (Vanco) through our website at https://www.christthevictor.net/give-online  . Thank you for your continued generosity!

There are some, especially winter visitors, whose email addresses we do not have. Please circulate this letter to them, as well, so they also may be informed.

Please know that we understand how difficult this is and we do not make this decision lightly. We are still community together, even if we cannot physically be together at present. Please pray for the most vulnerable in our community, for health care providers, our leaders at every level, and for one another in this challenging time.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Bruce Lerum
